Come May 20, and all agencies, including JICA, BSNL and Water Resources department will have to stop road digging and also restore the damaged roads in South Goa district.
It has also been decided to set up taluka level control rooms in all the talukas of the district, which will operate 24x7 between May 20 and October 31.
The South Goa district administration on Thursday ordered a complete stop to the road digging activity in the district by JICA, BSNL, WRD and other agencies from May 20.
South Goa Additional District Collector, Y B Tawde on Thursday chaired a high level meeting with officials of the police, fire services, JICA, PWD, BSNL, WRD wherein it was decided to review various decisions taken by the district administration at the meeting held in March last.
Tawde told The Goan after the meeting that road digging activity will come to a halt on May 20, adding that no permissions will be granted to any road digging after the set deadline. He further said the agencies have been told to restore the damaged road well before the onset of monsoon. “The district administration has made it clear to the agencies that all road digging should stop by May 20," Tawde said, adding that the administration will closely monitor the implementation of the directions on the ground.
He pointed out that all taluka offices will have the mandatory 24x7 control rooms to meet emergencies during the monsoons, adding that various stake holders, including the police, fire services, etc have been told to put in place measures in conformity with the disaster management plan.
