No scam in workers’ salaries, says PMC

Rejecting charges levelled by GenNext that the local body withdraws money (daily wage salary) on fake names of workers, Ponda Municipal Council maintained it doesn’t employ 200 workers in its jurisdiction to do cleanliness work.

It may be recalled that GenNext had alleged that about 300 to 400 fake names of workers were included in the list. These, it alleged, were entrusted the work of cleanliness and their salary amount was withdrawn by PMC itself.
GenNext had asked the council to come clean on the issue within 15 days, failing which it would lodge a complaint. Speaking to The Goan, councillor and garbage committee president Venkatesh Naik said GenNext has tried to misguide the people of Ponda. “There are not more than 200 workers engaged for various works of cleanliness,” he said and added, “The allegations levelled are baseless. GenNext should first gather all details and then make claims of scam.” Naik has also hit back at GenNext asking what it was doing to support to clean the city. “Only levelling allegations against those working for betterment of the city will not do. It is the duty of everyone to support PMC for good cause,” Naik added.
PMC was twice honoured by the government for handling the garbage issue wisely.
