The issue figured at the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Mellisa Carvalho held on Sunday wherein members vehemently opposed all plans to set up a coal storage or depot in the village or in the neighbouring villages. Agitated members further opposed the transportation of coal by rail or road fearing large scale pollution.
Deputy sarpanch Franky Rodrigues later told the media that the granm sabha adopted a resolution strongly opposing the coal depot and coal transportation.
The gram sabha also discussed at length the issue concerning the Subway at the railway level crossing.
Gram sabha members demanded that the authorities should build an underpass with three meter height and a width of seven meters with a provision for pedestrian footpaths.
The members also discussed the construction of the proposed road over bridge over the railway tracks around a kilometer away from the level crossing.
Some of the members felt that failure to construct the road over bridge may only bring all the traffic towards the subway at the level crossing in the village resulting in traffic congestion.
