In an initiative to tackle the burning e-waste problem facing the State, the Saviourites Alumni Association, Loutolim, in association with Global E-Waste Management System held an e-waste collection drive and awareness programme in the Loutolim-Camurlim area.
In his address, Fr Ligorinho Da Costa advised the students to take care of e-waste generated in their homes and ensure it was disposed of in a scientific manner. He exuded confidence that India has the capacity to effectively handle e-waste.
Sohan Prabhu of Global E-Waste Management System said that the Goa State Pollution Control Board has granted the firm permission to handle e-waste in Goa. “We have the capacity to treat 103 tonnes of e-waste in a scientific manner,” he said, while suggesting that villages can set up a drop facility for disposal of such waste.
