No word yet from Timeout on dues payable to State

The Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Dipak M Bandekar, has informed that the organisers of Timeout electronic-dance-music (EDM) festival have still not responded to the show-cause notice sent to it by the department.

Bandekar confirmed that the notice has been served. This was the second show-cause notice sent to Timeout organisers. The first show-cause notice, which was sent to them for non-payment of taxes to the state government by the due date, had returned back to the Commercial Taxes Department. It was after that that the department had sent the notice again.

The organisers have not even shared the details like number of people, who attended their festival with the state government.

Bandekar said, “We are yet to estimate the exact amount of tax due from the organisers of Timeout. We have got details from Paytm in terms of how many payments were done through them during Timeout EDM. Now, we are going to calculate the tax amount due. If the organisers don’t respond to our show-cause notice, we will raise an ex-parte demand for tax payment.”

Timeout EDM took place at Vagator between December 27 and 29 last year. The last date for the organisers to pay all taxes due to the state government was January 22.

Meanwhile, Bandekar has also written to the Tourism Department not to release the security deposit to the organisers of Timeout. The Goan Everyday had earlier reported that Timeout organisers had made a security deposit amounting to Rs 1.5 crore with the Tourism Department in the form of post-dated cheques.

These cheques can be encashed by the state government till April 15 in case the organisers don’t pay the taxes.
