PANAJI: The Goa Government is considering developing a mobile app to allow citizens to easily report cases of noise pollution, Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande told the Bombay High Court on Thursday.
The High Court was hearing a petition filed by the Citizens Committee on noise pollution led by one Antonio D’Souza who alleged that despite High Court orders in some cases action against noise pollution by establishments was not forthcoming.
“The Government has received a proposal from Info Tech Corporation of Goa Ltd for development and for providing Mobile App for complaint registration of noise pollution.
Such a Mobile App will facilitate the registration of the complaints for noise pollution and expeditious action on the basis of such complaints,” Adv Lawande told the court.
“The Government will take a decision within a period of three weeks from today in relation to providing such a Mobile App,” he said.
The High Court had directed the government to form the citizens' committees on noise pollution in March 2007 to ensure that the noise rules are enforced in Goa. The government notified the monitoring committee comprising citizens and some government officials.
The issue raised its head once again after complaints that despite complaints the police were not acting on complaints of loud music even beyond the permissible hours especially along the Baga Calangute beach stretch.
The fathers of the Baga Retreat house run by the Jesuits too had alleged that loud music was disturbing the peace and tranquility of retreatants and forcing them away.
