Will the District Planning Committee (DPC)  ever meet before the end of the current term of the South Goa Zilla  Panchayat in January next year?

This question came to the fore at the meeting of the South  Goa ZP on Tuesday when ZP member Nelly Rodrigues pointed  out that not a single meeting of the DPC has taken place during the last  four and half

years.

ZP Chief Executive Officer, Agnelo Fernandes pointed  out that his office has set in motion the process of sending letters to  panchayat bodies in South Goa to submit their development plans in  order to formulate the district plan, but that only six  VPs responded to his letter.

Even as the CEO sought cooperation from the panchayats to prepare the consolidated district plan, Nelly was on her feet  saying that the DPC has not even met once during the current term.

She said no one knows who are the members of the DPC and why the DPC was never convened during the current tenure.

Members then demanded that the ZP Chairperson, who is also  the head of the DPC, should call a meeting of the planning panel by  sending invitations even to the MLAs to attend the meet.
