passes away

Noted bacterial scientist, microbiologist Dr Jaivant Sardesai and father of Goa Forward chief & Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness.
He was 94 and is survived by his son Vijai, daughter Dr Savita Kerkar, daughter-in-law, besides sons-in-law and grandchildren.
His mortal remains will be cremated at the Mathgramastha Hindu Sabha, Margao on Thursday morning.
Known as 'Aku', Dr Jaivant Sardesai did valuable work as an entomologist for the international organisation 'UNO'. Crazy about cricket, he had played for Trent Bridge in the English county. He had played in this team as a wicketkeeper and opening batsman.
When there was opposition everywhere to the Konkan Railway project, Dr Jaivantrao had come out in strong support of the project and his scientific conviction that the Konkan Railway would not have any impact on the environment.
