Residents of Mungul have threatened to take to the streets if their demand for the construction of the Western bypass on stilts does not find favour with the government.
Moments after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar left Mungul to head to Benaulim at his next stop, a group of residents of Mungul and neighbouring Seraulim village told the media that they will have no option than to come on the streets and opposing land filling to pave way for the bypass.

Moments after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar left Mungul to head to Benaulim at his next stop, a group of residents of Mungul and neighbouring Seraulim village told the media that they will have no option than to come on the streets and opposing land filling to pave way for the bypass.
"We are convinced that the Chief Minister's proposa
l to build several mini concrete bridges to take care of flooding will not work. Our stand for a bypass on stilts remains," Cruz Fernandes told the media, while saying that he would be the first person to descend on the road to oppose anything other than the bypass on stilts.
Former MMC Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello said the people of Mungul are demanding the bypass on stilts since the area consists of low-lying and flood-prone areas. "The Chief Minster may have come up with a plan to build several small bridges, but the problem of flooding will remain," he said.
The residents are now planning to have an urgent meeting of all villagers,
right from Mungul to Seraulim, Benaulim and Navelim to take stock of the situation and chalk out the future course of action.
