Goa's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Kunal, IAS, on Friday presented the "Due Constitution Notification" of the new Goa Legislative Assembly to Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, a day after the results of the February 14 elections were declared on Thursday.
Kunal, accompanied by the Secretary of the Election Commission of India (ECI) Sanjeev Kumar Prasad, called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan and presented the notification constituting the new legislative assembly of Goa.
The Secretary to the Governor, Mihir Vardhan was present.
The notification under provisions of the Representation of People's Act has to be issued by the Governor to constitute the new House before March 17, the date on which the five-year term of the current one expires.
Earlier on Friday, the Goa cabinet headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant decided to recommend to the Governor the dissolution of the legislature, indicating that the process of constituting the new House may be conducted much before the March 17 deadline.
