Five panchas in the nine-member Salvador do Mundo panchayat have moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Antonio Fernandes on Wednesday.
Five panchas, Dy Sarpanch Reena Fernandes, Sandeep Salgaonkar, Suvarnalata Parsekar, Vijay Dalvi and Hemant Borkar have moved the no-confidence motion and since panch member Roshni Savaikar was disqualified by the Mapusa Block Development Officer on March 24, the strength of the panchayat has been reduced to eight members.
The five panchas have accused the sarpanch of not taking other panch members into confidence regarding development works, failing to take action against illegal structures and failing to discharge duties properly.
As Savoikar was disqualified, the post of deputy sarpanch had fallen vacant and in the election on Monday, Reena Fernandes was elected as deputy sarpanch.
With these developments, all three panchayats in Porvorim constituency have come back under the control of Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte.
