SANGUEM
The fair which has been set up on the occasion of the feast of Our Lady of Miracles Sanguem, which was celebrated on May 21, has been attracting a large number of people after a gap of two years due to the Covid pandemic.
The feast of Our Lady of Miracles Church at Sanguem, which is popularly known as Purumentachem Fest, has a large number of stalls put up by various vendors, which include readymade garments, plastic utensils of daily use, furniture, toys, sweets, games and more importantly dry fish and spices.
The fair, which will last for another four days, is seen as attracting a large crowd, particularly in the evening session, giving a different look to Sanguem town that otherwise would hardly see any movement of people late in the evening.
People from Sanguem and surrounding villages visit the fair to buy dry fish, furniture or spices to store them for the upcoming monsoon season.
As people residing in the remote villages have no way of getting fresh fish during the monsoon, people usually buy dry fish at the fair to consume it during monsoon season. People also buy the required spices such as dry chillies and other spices at the fair to last for the season.
