Instability has come back to haunt the Cuncolim Municipal Council once again in the current term.

As many as eight councillors, including five women, besides Vice-chairperson Virendra Desai, have moved a no-confidence motion against CMC Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas on Tuesday.

The no-confidence motion signed by Angela Luis, Panzy Coutinho, Polita Carneiro, Virendra Desai, Kiran P Naik, Succorina Coutinho, Mario Moraes and Ashok Fadte was entered in the office of the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) on Tuesday.

In the notice of no-confidence motion, the eight signatories have claimed that the Chairperson has failed to discharge her duties and responsibilities towards the council and its citizens and is not taking other councillors into confidence in the day-to-day administration of the council affairs.

The signatories have urged the DMA to convene a special meeting of the council for the removal of the Chairperson.
