In a surprising move, six members of the Aldona Panchayat have moved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Trisha Naik and her deputy Deepak Naik on Thursday.
Six panch members - Freddy Pontes, Charudatta Panjikar, Jyotsna Nagade, Vallabh Polle, Ursula D’Souza and Tome Tavares have moved the no-confidence motion stating that the sarpanch was working with a “political motivation.”
The no-trust motion also states that the sarpanch has taken no steps to increase the revenue of the panchayat and has bypassed the panchas on several occasions.
Additionally, the motion states that the deputy sarpanch acted in a very rude manner.
The development has raised quite a few eyebrows in the political circles, as the State was gearing up for the impending assembly election.
Also one of the panch members, Ursula D’Souza who signed the no-trust motion, is the candidate of Aam Aadmi Party in the ensuing assembly polls.
“There is no political connotation to the no-confidence motion moved by six of us against the sarpanch and the deputy,” said Ursula D’Souza putting all speculations to rest.
“Most of the panchayat-related decisions were taken by only three persons including the sarpanch and the deputy. The fortnightly meetings of panch members were also not held on time. The last meeting was held in November,” she added.
Incidentally, the BJP-backed sarpanch, Trisha Naik was elected to the post at the expense of Ursula D'Souza who was dethroned within one month as Aldona sarpanch.
In a year, this is the third attempt to dethrone the sarpanch in Aldona. Sandra Rodrigues was first voted out as sarpanch in March and within a month Ursula D’Souza who was sworn-in as the sarpanch was voted out in May this year.
The six panchayat members have requested the BDO to call a special meeting to discuss the no-confidence motion against the sarpanch-deputy duo.
