VALPOI
Cattle are now being given an Aadhaar-like unique identity in the State.
A software to tag cattle for their unique characteristics has been implemented at a Goshala in Nanus-Valpoi for the first time in the State and details of 465 cattle at the Goshala have been tagged by the software.
According to reports, the software has been developed by two young software engineers from Belagavi and submitted it to the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed for a proposal to digitise cattle in a bid to curb cattle theft all over the country. Responding to this appeal, two young software engineers, Prasad Desai and Sudip Hukerry developed this special software and submitted it to the union ministry,” said retired veterinary officer Raghunath Dhuri.
“This software was appreciated by the prime minister, who even honoured the two software engineers.”
“The Goshala at Nanus-Valpoi is the first in the State to use this software to tag its cattle using the latest technology,” said Dhuri.
Providing details of the software, Dhuri said specific information unique to each animal, like the footprint, height, weight, colour and tail hair is collected in the software.
“These details are then fed into the system, which generates a unique code to each cattle. Once the codes are uploaded in the system, they are then made available to all across the country. This unique ID allotted to each cattle is very useful when insuring cattle.”
Dhuri said 465 cattle at the Nanus Goshala have already been allotted a unique code after unique details of these animals were fed into the software over the last four days.
“These details will be made available to the public in the next few days. This unique ID for cattle will help detect and curb cattle theft.”
“The software will also go a long way in helping to identify cattle and their population,” said Dhuri.
