In yet another high-end infra upgrade in the public health sector, the Goa Medical college and Hospital is set to get a robotic department where minimally invasive procedures and treatments for a wide range of ailments within the next two months.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said the facility will be in place and commissioned on India's Republic Day in January next year.
He said, the department will be equipped with advanced, state-of-the-art laparoscopic surgery technology.
"I am happy to announce that we will soon have a minimally invasive and robotic department at @GoaGmc, equipped with state-of-the-art advanced laparoscopic surgery technology which will be made available to the people on January 26, 2024," Rane wrote on micro-blogging site 'X' (formerly Twitter) .
He claimed it will be a "significant milestone" as it will be the country's first government hospital to offer such advanced equipment to enable minimally invasive surgeries free of charge.
"This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision for healthcare excellence, emphasising access to the best medical services for the people. This department will specifically benefit patients with complex surgeries as a multidisciplinary team with inputs from gastroenterologists, urologists,
surgical oncologists will be available under one roof to get the best possible outcomes," Rane further wrote on his 'X' handle.
Rane said, this department will ensure a substantial reduction in waiting times, expedite discharges and precision in surgeries.
We are dedicated to shaping the 'Goa model for health'," Rane who has over the last couple of months consistently pitched the 'Goa Model' against the Aam Aadmi Party's 'Delhi health model'.
Earlier in September, Rane had promised a 'Goa Model' encompassing super-speciality treatments within the ambit of public healthcare "within six months" at the inauguration of the In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment facility at the GMC where he had also slammed the AAP's Delhi model.
"Many times in the area of healthcare, everybody talks of this so-called model called the 'Delhi Model'. I am saying this is a 'Goa Model'. And, in this Goa model we are trying to reach out to the people of the State, trying to provide services to the citizens to bring a smile on their face," Rane had said on September.
The IVF centre at the GMCH's super-speciality block is fully CSR-driven and Rane had pledged to make it a top-notch centre while debunking the 'Delhi Model' just a hype model.
