A machine to measure soil moisture has been developed and will be made available to farmers in Sattari.
Providing details on this machine, Valpoi Zonal Agriculture Officer (ZAO) Vishwanath Gawas said water is an important factor for the growth of any plant and insufficient or excess water can affect the growth of the plant.
“Farmers may not know whether the water is sufficient, inadequate or excess. It is important to gauge the level of soil moisture for a healthy plant. Keeping this in mind, a soil moisture measuring machine has been developed to ascertain if the plant is receiving sufficient water or not,” said Gawas.
“This machine, which measures soil moisture, will be of great benefit to the farmers as they are usually unable to predict the retention of groundwater.”
When asked about the cost of the machine, Gawas replied: “The soil moisture measuring machine is priced at Rs 2,000 but it can be made available to farmers with a 50% subsidy.”
Gawas has appealed to farmers in Sattari to visit the ZAO to avail more information about the soil moisture measuring machine so that they can benefit from this device for their crops.
