After making them count the potholes on the national highway, talathis have now been given another responsibility to collect data on health workers.
According to sources, the survey is being held keeping in mind the arrival of a vaccine for Covid-19.
Sources said the collector has given an order talathis to collect data taluka-wise and this includes collecting information of all private hospitals, laboratories and workers.
Bardez has 217 health-related centres and individuals, which include 21 hospitals, 55 allopathic clinics, 3 homeopathic clinics, 2 ayurvedic clinics, 19 dental clinics, 2 laboratories, a nursing home and 113 doctors. As many as 114 of them are based in Mapusa.
When contacted, Bardez Mamledar Laxmikant Kuttikar said the survey is being held based on information provided by the North Goa collector.
"I have notified the talathis to visit these centres and individuals who provide healthcare to collect the data. So far, 217 such centres and individuals have been identified and talathis have been asked to cooperate with the process.
This additional responsibility has, however, not gone down well with the talathis and many of them have complained that this work should ideally be undertaken by the health department.
