The ongoing counter-terrorism drill under the supervision of National Security Guard (NSG) is being undertaken at the new, under construction premises of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on Tuesday.
Heavy deployment of security personnel was seen in the vicinity of GMC as a helicopter whirled above the under construction new premises of the hospital.
Sources informed that a Goa Police personnel, Jaydev Sawant, sustained severe injuries on one of his legs during a mock bomb drill which was being undertaken as a part of the three day-long counter-terrorism drill scheduled to conclude on Wednesday. The mock bomb reportedly exploded right next to Sawant causing injuries to his leg.
A similar mock bomb drill exercise was undertaken on Monday at the Goa Assembly complex.
Sources further disclosed that the injured personnel has now been admitted at the casualty ward of GMC and is undergoing medical treatment for the same.
With Superintendent of Police (Anti Terrorism Squad) Shobhit Saksena remaining unavailable for comments at this stage, it has yet to be verified whether this incident was staged as a part of the mock drill, considering that the NSG teams do not use live explosives during mock drills.
