Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that nursing is a well-respected profession all over and nurses have demand across the country, adding that nurses work round the clock with devotion and are worth to be saluted.
The Chief Minister was speaking at the inaugural of the three-day the 22nd Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Psychiatric Nurses (ISPN) in collaboration with the Institute of Nursing Education, Directorate Health Services, at the Institute of Nursing Education near Panaji.
The theme of the conference is 'Role of Nurses in Promoting Mental Health - Life Span Approach' which has the participation of delegates from 21 states.
The Chief Minister speaking further said that nurses work round the clock and are worthy of praise. "The never-ending demand for nurses has necessitated the launch of many more nursing institutes."
The three-day conference he said will help enhance and enrich knowledge in this field.
He appreciated ISPN for endeavouring in the field of nursing thereby contributing to the field of health. "No doubt organizing 22 conferences regularly in different parts of the country is an outstanding job," Sawant said
The theme of the conference, Sawant said is very relevant and it is applicable in the present health scenario.
President of ISPN INDIA, Dr K Reddemma, while unfolding the theme of the programme, said that the purpose of the conference is to gather and share knowledge and expertise among the fraternity.
Apart from this, she said, it will also help them to keep abreast of the latest information, knowledge and innovations and skills in the field of nursing. She advised sharing their knowledge and experience among themselves. "Develop the ability to understand the needs and problems of people apart from creating and developing the ability of convenience," she urged.
Dean Goa Medical College Bambolim Dr Shivanand Bandekar in his address said that he has seen nurses all over, but nurses in India and Goa are the best. To endorse, he cited the situation of the Covid pandemic wherein the nurses played a vital role in tackling the same and further added that without their cooperation, this would have been not possible.
He said the Nurse Practitioner Course in Critical Care would be worked out with the help of the Chief Minister as suggested by the government.
He informed that from next year, a course in psychiatric nursing will be commenced and suggested convincing others to undertake a diploma in psychiatric nursing which will help address the problem with psychological disorders.
