After reviving the fields lying fallow for over two decades, farmers of Nuvem has adopted the drone technology on Wednesday to spray fertilizers on the paddy crop.
Even as a drone deployed by ICAR went about the job of spraying fertilizers in the cultivated area, officials and stakeholders called upon the farmers to avail government schemes to take farming forward in the village.
Incidentally, newly-posed Salcete Zonal Agriculture Officer Rajesh D’Costa pointed out that it a sheer coincidence that the harvester was first deployed in Nuvem village by former Agriculture Director Amancio Rodrigues before farmers started using harvesters to harvest paddy.
In his address, agriculture stakeholder from Curtorim Moreno Rebello made a fervent plea to the farmers not to keep their land fallow, saying outside real estate developers eye fallow land before purchasing the land of Goans.
Giving a clean chit to the Agriculture department for working in the interest of the farmers, Moreno further said Agriculture department is the lone department which is corruption free.
In his address, Nuvem social worker Everson Vales said the adoption of drone technology by the farmers of Nuvem show that there’s no looking back now after reviving the paddy fields.
“These fields have been lying fallow for over 20 years. Now, that the farmers have brought additional fallow land cultivation, it is indeed satisfying that the farmers have gone for technology to improve paddy cultivation”, Everson said.
