MARGAO
Nationalist Congress party Nuvem block President Franky D’Mello has lodged a complaint with the Maina Curtorim police station to register FIR against the PWD officials in connection with the death of 25-year old Nuvem lad Richard Costa during tree cutting along the NH-66 earlier this week.

In his complaint, Franky lodged the complaint against a senior PWD official, supervisor, and the labourers, besides the concerned authorities who did not act despite of direction from Dy Collector, for committing an offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

He said the act of cutting tress in a haphazard manner without taking any care and caution only ascertain the fact that the persons concerned was having full knowledge that if a tree falls on any passerby it will cause his or her death.

Young Richard had died earlier this week when a tree which was being cut by the labourers engaged by the contractor appointed by the PWD, NH along the highway, had come crashing down on him while he was on his way on his scooter. He was declared brought dead at the Hospicio.

Locals claimed that a lone traffic policeman was drafted for duty at the spot when the national highway passing through village is a traffic bottleneck.
