Moves by some Congress legislators to defect to the BJP earned the ire of the powerful clergy, with Fr Eremito Rebello warning that the MLAs and their families will have to face the wrath of the Almighty if they had taken the oath before Gods and Goddesses not to leave the party if elected.
If social activist Fr Eremito Rebello slammed the move by the Congress MLAs, another priest is believed to have alerted the people for non-violent protests at the residence of the MLAs.
On his birthday on Monday, Fr Eremito condemned the reported moves by the Congress MLAs to quit the party to join the ruling BJP.
Fr Eremito has cautioned the MLAs, more so those who believe their sins can be pardoned by a confession with a Priest, making it clear there's no forgiveness if one violates an oath taken before the Almighty.
Fr Eremito said it only shows the character of the MLAs who are planning to switch sides after winning the election on one party banner.
"Have these MLAS forgotten how the voters had stood in queues, risking their lives during the Covid just to get these candidates elected to the Assembly," he questioned, saying any move to switch sides will amount to backstabbing of the voters.
Another video of a Priest urging the people to exercise their democratic right to protest in a non-violent way against MLAs planning to defect went viral.
