MARGAO
It’s been three days since the Margao traffic police placed cones on the busy road behind the Margao Municipal building to caution motorists about the danger of the overflowing sewage chamber.
Sadly, the traffic cones continue to stand at the chamber for want of repairs by the concerned agencies.
While the Margao Municipal engineers have pointed fingers at the sewerage department, the PWD Sewerage has now claimed that the repair work pertains to the roads. A senior official of the PWD Sewerage informed that the sewage manhole is intact, but the top layer of asphalt has given way due to overflowing.
“The sewage manhole is intact and only the top layer of the asphalt over the manhole has given way due to the overflowing of the sewage chambers. But, the question of repairs relating to asphalt falls with the PWD roads,” the official said.
Even as the official hinted that the matter falls in the domain of the PWD, he too was not sure whether the work would come under the jurisdiction of PWD Road or PWD National Highway. For, the road surrounding the Margao Municipal building and the Margao Municipal garden is maintained by the PWD NH.
Even though the concerned government agencies have still not come to repair the road, which would facilitate the traffic police to lift away the cones placed on the spot, citizens have called for immediate action by the agencies to stop a disaster in the making.
Meanwhile, several sewage manholes, which were left damaged because of overflowing during last week’s heavy downpour, are craving repairs. While the traffic police has placed cones on the road behind the Margao Municipal building to caution motorists, citizens have placed plants into many a sewage chamber, which resembled water fountains last week.
