Acting on concerns raised by a group of Canacona youth led by Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, a team of KTC officials inspected the dilapidated KTC bus stand on Saturday.
Bhandari and a delegation had met KTC MD Derrick Neto at Porvorim and had submitted a memorandum, demanding urgent maintenance work of the KTC bus stand at Chaudi, Canacona and giving an ultimatum of 14 days to repair the broken metal gutter rails at the bus stand.
The delegation also apprised officials about various problems at the bus stand and demanded concrete steps to address the issues.
Highlighting the broken metal grating cover on the gutter at the terminus, Bhandari gave an ultimatum of 14 days to authorities to take action, failing which he has warned of an agitation.
On Saturday, a team of KTC officers visited Canacona and inspected the Canacona KTC bus stand in the presence of Bhandari and others.
The inspecting team was informed that during the inauguration of the bus stand, then chief minister late Manohar Parrikar assured Canconcars of regular and timely maintenance, but the bus stand had gone from bad to worse.
The team was shown the broken metal grating covers over blocked gutters, stinking toilets, leaking roofs and broken floors, among other issues.
The KTC officers were asked to utilise funds collected at the bus stand itself through shop rentals, parking fees and bus entry fees to maintain the bus stand healthy.
The KTC team assured to carry out maintenance at the earliest. Those who were present during the site inspection included KTC Depot Manager Girish Gavade, Assistant Purchase Officer Krishna Usgaonkar, Assistant Engineer Amey Gaonkar and Supervisor Satej Gaude.
Those accompanying Bhandari included Vaishnav Pednekar, Manesh Desai, Cleston Vegas, Gaspar Coutinho and Sagar Pednekar.
