Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte on Monday assured the House to take appropriate action in the death of a tourist due to electrocution on Colva beach after receiving a fact finding report of the incident.
“We are investigating the incident. As soon as we get the fact finding report we will take action in the matter,” Khaunte said.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Benaulim MLA, Venzy Viegas said people of Colva and Goa at large were concerned due to the death of a tourist at Colva beach after he came in contact with a livewire.
“This seems to have happened due to the substandard nature of beautification work and material used. An inquiry has to be done into the beautification work at Colva beach and the victim’s family need to be compensated by the power department,” Viegas said.
Khaunte said that soon after getting the fact finding report, responsibility will be fixed and a decision on paying compensation will also be taken.
It may be recalled in a tragic incident reported on July 14 a Jaipur-based tourist who was at the Colva beach came in contact with a live wire of an ornamental lamp and died.
