Several important guidelines issued for dhondgans

BICHOLIM
Authorities on Saturday reviewed safety and security measures as part of preparations for the annual Shri Lairai Devi Zatra at Shirgao on April 21.
The review meeting was attended by North Goa Additional District Collector Praveen Parab, Bicholim Deputy Collector Gautam Naik, Mamlatdar Shailendra Desai, Traffic Police Chief Prabodh Shirvalikar, Police Inspector Vijay Rane Sardesai, along with officials from various departments concerned.
During the meeting, several important guidelines were issued to dhondgans (devotees who participate in the traditional ritual).
CCTV surveillance,
zonal monitoring
To ensure that last year’s incidents of overcrowding are not repeated, authorities have installed 28 CCTV cameras across the Zatra area, with plans to install additional cameras in the coming days.
The entire Zatra premises will be divided into multiple monitoring zones. Continuous announcements and instructions will be issued through loudspeakers in each zone to regulate crowd movement and maintain order.
Restrictions
on shops
Bicholim Police Inspector Vijay Rane Sardesai clarified that on the first day of the Zatra, no shops will be permitted along the stretch from Murdi to the temple premises. Permission to set up shops will be granted only from the second day onwards.
He further warned that if anyone attempts to set up shops on the first day despite restrictions, strict action will be taken by a special task force.
The traditional vow (Vrat) of the dhondgans begins from Gudi Padwa and continues for a month. During this period, devotees may visit the temple at any time to offer Oti (ritual offerings).
The temple committee has requested devotees not to crowd the temple on the very first day solely for offering Oti, as the ritual can be performed throughout the month.
Final orders by March 15
Additional District Collector Praveen Parab stated that strict compliance with all guidelines will be mandatory for dhondgans and devotees. The final official government order regarding the Zatra is expected to be issued by March 15.
Authorities have assured that comprehensive arrangements are being made to ensure the festival is conducted safely and smoothly, and have appealed for full cooperation from all devotees.
