Stating that he would ensure that the controversial Old Goa structure is demolished come what may, panch Vishal Volvoikar informed that he won’t back off even if the issue goes to the court.
Speaking at a news conference at his office in Old Goa on Saturday, Volvoikar said the panchayat has slated its fortnightly meeting on Tuesday in which a resolution will be adopted to issue a demolition order for the structure.
“After the resolution is passed, the panchayat will issue the demolition order,” Volvoikar stated and appealed to government authorities for help in getting the structure demolished.
“The government authorities should now back the panchayat in getting the structure demolished,” he pointed out.
When The Goan questioned whether he would continue the fight even if the issue goes to the court, Volvoikar said, “Currently I have the backing of the Congress party and I will ensure that with their help the issue is fought in the courts as well.”
“The issue has reached this stage today because it was I who first lodged a complaint against the structure with the Old Goa panchayat.”
“I complained against the structure after I came to know that the licences to the same were availed fraudulently. All those who accuse me of being party to approve the licence did not even lodge a complaint,” he added.
