Old market feast fair: Traffic police cite PM's visit, ISL match

Old market feast fair: Traffic police cite PM's visit, ISL match

MARGAO

Traffic DySP Prabodh Shirwaikar and Traffic Cell in-charge PI Gautam Salunke had recommended shifting the old market feast fair from the old market to the Comba ring road, the SGPDA pick-up stand or the Horticulture ground opposite the SGPDA pick-up stand.

Reason? The stretch of NH-66 from the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex to the exit side of the KTC bus stand Margao is plagued with traffic congestion given the ongoing sewerage works, wherein two-way traffic is being diverted through a single lane creating traffic snarls.

Moreover, the traffic cops maintained that being a National Highway, the road remains busy throughout the day and night, and if permission is granted to organize a feast fair in the open space near St Francis Xavier Chapel and on the SGPDA ground, hordes of people and vehicles will be drawn for the fair, and vehicles will be parked along the road adding to the traffic congestion and paralyzing the entire movement of vehicular traffic on the stretch of NH-66 from Old Market Circle to Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex.

Traffic sources further informed that given Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Goa, including Mopa on December 11, the entire traffic force will be diverted for the PM’s traffic bandobast, with an official further saying there will not be any personnel to man the traffic at the old market.

That’s not all. Apart from the ongoing traffic snarls, a traffic police official said the ISL league match is scheduled at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda on December 10, which will further aggravate the traffic situation.
