Calangute Police on Friday arrested a 25-year-old native of Nagpur on charges of murdering his friend.
According to the police, the deceased, Rakesh Rai along with four friends had gone to spend the evening with some old friends at Baga beach on Thursday evening.
Later, the accused, Santosh Chattar, who also was known to the deceased, joined them.
In the midst of the drinking session, Chattar and Rai got into a verbal altercation, police said.
The other friends tried to pacify both but the accused in a fit of anger stabbed Rai several times in his chest and stomach, inflicting him with serious injuries.
He was initially rushed to Candolim Health Centre and later referred to GMC, Bambolim, where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning, police informed.
Police informed that the accused, Santosh Chattar voluntarily called the police control room and informed that he had committed a murder.
"He then submitted himself to the police and also handed over the knife used to commit the offence," PI Jivba Dalvi informed The Goan.
The accused was arrested for murder under Section 302 of the IPC. Calangute Police is investigating the case.
