The Colva police has achieved a breakthrough in the February 26 incident when two canoes and fishing nets were set afire at the Vaddi beach, Benaulim.
District Police Chief, SP Abhishek Dhania said the Colva police has arrested one Rofilio Fernandes, a resident of Vaddie in connection with the incident, saying the Police have successfully detected the incident wherein, some unknown person/s set the canoes on fire at Vaddi Beach, Benaulim.
The Colva police has received information on February 26, between 02.00 hrs. to 02.30 hours that some unknown accused persons committed mischief by setting fire to two of the canoes styled as "St. Antony" bearing Reg. No. GA-01-MM-3454 and "Sea Spider" bearing Reg. No. GA-01-MM-1896" at Vaddi beach.
SP Dhania said the police had formed a team by SDPO, Margao DySP Santosh Desai comprising of PI Therron D'Costa of Colva PS, PSI Subhash Gaonkar & others.
“During the course of investigation, technical surveillance was mounted as well as local intelligence was deployed. Through sources and technical approach an input was received that one suspect namely Rofilio Fernandes, a resident of Vaddi-Benaulim might be involved in the aforesaid crime. Accordingly, he was detained and sustained interrogation and enquiry was conducted”, he said. Further investigation is in progress.
