The accused, Venkat Swamy (28) from Housing Board, Mapusa alleged tried to get fresh with a 17-year-old girl, police informed.
Sources in the police informed that the accused had gone to his relation’s house at Canca Bund on Sunday, where the girl’s house is also located.
At around 7.30 pm, the accused noticed the girl outside her house and under the cover of darkness, accosted her. The girl somehow wriggled herself out of his grasp which annoyed him. He then retaliated and hit her back.
A commotion ensued and the people gathered there and questioned the man’s behaviour.
Later, the mother of the victim girl lodged a complaint with the police.
