One held with drugs
MARGAO: The Margao police has arrested a native of Karnataka Salim Badami for being in possession of 345 grams of ganja, worth Rs 50,000 in the city on Tuedsay.
Acting on a tip off, Margao PSI Girendra Naik said that the accused was apprehended while he was waiting in front of the Margao Municipal building to deliver the consignment to the buyer. He said a police team led by PSI Sarvesh Gaddi swooped down on the accused and detained him under the provisions of the NDPS
The police are trying to find out whether the accused is a habitual offender and the source from where he procured the drug.

MARGAO: Georgina Mascarenhas has been elected as panch in the by-election held for Ward 2 of the Majorda village panchayat.
She defeated Doris B in a straight contest.
After her election, Georgina told the media that she was supported by the people of Ward 2 along with the Nuvem ZP member Wilfred D’Sa. She pointed that Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco, Colva ZP member Nelly Rodrigues and Majorda Sarpanch Moises Vaz had all supported her rival candidate in the election.
“I had the full backing of my people. They stood by me as they knew that I was working for them in the ward,” she added.

AGBA commends Kamat
MARGAO: The Aquem Ground Bachao Association (AGBA) has expressed satisfaction that their efforts of retaining the Costa ground for various activities is bearing fruit after Margao MLA Digambar Kamat held games for women on the ground to mark his birthday celebrations.
Association secretary Andrew Sequeira said this is a victory for the AGBA, Aquemkars, Madgaonkars and others as everyone will now be able to have many more programmes and functions on the ground. “We are happy because the Margo MLA was always backward when it came to the cause of retaining the ground," he added.
He pointed out that people of Aquem only wanted to confirm if proper permission was taken to hold the games, adding that written permission granted by Costa & Co was shown to the concerned.
