The PWD has finally managed to restore equilibrium in production of water at the Assonora treatment plant, after one of three motors in the 50 mld treatment plant was installed and pumping operations started late Tuesday night.
One of the three motors of the 50 mld plant, which was sent for repairs to Bangalore, was brought to Goa on Monday and the process to install it was completed late Tuesday evening.
“Despite having to encounter almost one hour power shutdown and another interruption, we managed to produce around 100 mld of water on Wednesday. The normal production capacity that is required is around 105 to 110 mld,” a PWD official informed.
The official, however, said normalcy has been restored in terms of production but cautioned that distribution of water to different areas was crucial and therefore had to be monitored properly.
“Distribution of water plays a crucial role so that every area gets proper supply,” he said.
The 50 mld plant will be able to work to its full capacity once the other two more motors are also brought back.
Sources informed that the motor sent to Ahmedabad for repairs was expected to arrive in the state by October 10.
Meanwhile, supply of water has almost normalized in Mapusa as most areas have started receiving supply after water remained out of bound to residents of Mapusa for almost five days during the Ganesh festival.
It may be recalled that on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi two motors at the 50 mld treatment plant got reportedly burnt halting the operation of the plant and plunging entire Bardez and parts of Bicholim in a water crisis.
