The Government of Goa will sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Águas de Portugal (AdP Group) a Portuguese state-owned company that operates in the water sector.

Announcing this, Minister for Public Works Sudin Dhavalikar, who is otherwise against all things Portuguese, said that the proposed technical partnership will help optimise Goa’s water supply and management operations.

“The main points (of the MoU) are water supply operation and energy efficiency and resource valorisation, waste water and sewerage planning, management and technological solutions, asset management procedure and standards, energy management operational workflows, operational data and information management,” Dhavalikar informed.

A team from Goa had earlier visited Portugal to observe first hand the practises in operation in the former coloniser, with which Goa now has cordial relations.

AdP Group companies provide services throughout all of mainland Portugal and across the fields of water supply and wastewater sanitation, namely the capture, treatment and distribution of water for public consumption and the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of urban and industrial wastewater, including their recycling and reuse.

The PWD and Aguas de Portugal will work in collaboration to develop common efforts and promote knowledge trading, best practices dissemination, implementation of minor project, training and capacity building through annual meetings.

The Memorandum of Understanding will be signed on September 29. Portuguese Environment Minister João Pedro de Matos Fernandes who is down in Goa to sign the MoU will visit plants in Goa.

Dhavalikar promised a new era in water supply, just like JICA, with government of Portugal.
