Speaking to media persons along the sidelines of a programme in Ponda, Dhavalikar said almost 70 per cent of the public have been provided with toilet facilities.
“We have to now cover the remaining people. Many works are pending as people are not getting NOCs from landlords, Comunidades and other institutions.
This is the main reason why we can’t achieve the goal. If we are successful in bridging the gap between landlords
and mundkars, we can achieve hundred per cent (completion of work) within one year. Else, the target will be achieved by 2019,” Dhavalikar said.
Dhavalikar also pointed out that the slum areas, where toilet facilities do not exist, have to be brought under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. We have already started building community toilets in Sancoale (for slum areas) and also in Shapur-Bandora,” he said.
“Making the concept of ‘Swachh Bharat’ successful should be responsibility of all,” he added.
Dhavalikar informed that the government has constructed a large number of toilets since 2002.
“This work is still going on. If the issue of NOCs is resolved, we can achieve the goal within one year,” he said.
