Oppn, activists criticise CM over ‘Urban Naxal’ remark

PANAJI

The opposition party and social activists have strongly condemned Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement wherein he claimed that some “Urban Naxals” are trying to divide the people on the basis of caste and religion.

On Saturday, while addressing the party workers, Sawant expressed concern over the influence of ‘Urban Naxalites’ in the State and said that these elements are making their presence in Goa by trying to sow discord among the people based on religion and caste.

“CM Pramod Sawant was absolutely right in saying there are Urban Naxal active in Goa. Such naxal belongs to his own party (BJP) that divides the country on caste and religion,” Congress Vice President Sunil Kawthankar said.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at Azad Maidan, the group of social activists expressed concern over the Chief Minister’s remark and demanded an immediate explanation as to who are those “Urban Naxalite” and requested to arrest them within 24 hours to protect the State and its people.

Social activists Shankar Polji highlighted the consequences of such political tactics and urged all Goans not to fall prey in such matter.
