Accusing the State government of interfering in the delimitation process, Opposition Leader Michael Lobo has threatened to approach a court over political interference.
Lobo said he will also write to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the State Election Commission (SEC) about the interference in the delimitation process.
He was addressing a news conference in the presence of Margao MLA Digamber Kamat and GPCC President Amit Patkar after a meeting of the Congress legislative wing on Monday.
“The SEC has undertaken the draft delimitation by conducting public hearings. Till this phase, there was no political interference. Now when the delimitation file is with the government for approval, interference is taking place, said Lobo.
“There was confusion in the delimitation process during municipal elections due to government interference and the court reprimanded it. Now, the same thing will take place if political interference continues in the delimitation process of panchayats,” said Lobo.
Lobo also alleged that people are not getting money from social welfare schemes like Griha Aadhar and Ladli Laxmi in time.
“Married women are not getting Ladli Laxmi money even after they deliver a baby. This is a result of administration’s failure,” Lobo said.
The opposition leader said the government should take some new decisions to boost tourism business in the State and also stressed the need for a waste treatment plant at Sonsodo of around 25 MT.
“When I was waste management minister, I had taken up the proposal to build such a waste treatment plant. However, due to interference of some political leaders, the plant is not going ahead,” he said.
