The Taleigao BJP mandal on Wednesday claimed opposition MLAs were involved in sabotaging the Vijay Sankalp rally of the party, even as it announced that the event will be held in the constituency on Friday.

Speaking to media persons, BJP's Taleigao Mandal President Dattaprasad Naik said efforts were underway to reject permission to organize the rally at the Taleigao Community Hall.

“We have all the necessary permissions from the NGPDA and TCP. Even though we don’t need permission from the panchayat, we asked them too. The fees have also been paid for the event. But there are constant efforts to stop the event on the pretext that we need permission from the church etc,” said Naik.

He alleged Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserate and her husband Santa Cruz MLA Babush Monseratte were behind the trouble they were experiencing. Naik added that BJP had succeeded in creating a strong hold for itself that had the sitting MLAs worried.

Naik has asked the state government to dissolve the panchayat and instead get an administrator to run the operations instead. The rally will have in attendance Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza and Aysuh Minister Shripad Naik.

Also commenting on the sacking of PWD minister Sudin Dhavalikar and his brother from the cabinet, Naik welcomed the move saying Taleigao locals had suffered the most when he was in power.

“The people of Taleigao had suffered a lot for three years and this is how he took the people 10 years behind. There were problems of water supply to homes, roads were in bad shape and the sewerage project is a huge failure. But since his sacking we’ve been getting good water supply to our area,” said Naik.
