Oppn to Adani’s gas pipeline laying work in Fatorda

MARGAO
Goa Forward Party Chief, Vijai Sardesai has red-flagged Adani’s gas pipeline laying work in his Fatorda constituency with the MLA instructing the PWD, Roads, not to grant any permission for the digging of roads for the gas project.

The Fatorda MLA has further pointed out that the piped cooking gas may not be a priority in his constituency since the consumers are well connected by agencies such as BPCL and HPCL.

Sardesai’s stand assumes significance and comes days after the Goa Forward-ruled Margao Municipal Council last month rejected Indian Oil Adani Gas Pvt Ltd’s request to provide land on lease for installation of pressure regulating units to supply uninterrupted gas to households.

The Council had also rejected the request for land admeasuring 2000 square meters for opening CNG fuel station to supply environmentally clean fuel to vehicles.

In his note put up to the PWD, Executive Engineer, Div VI, the Fatorda MLA drew the attention of the officials to the nuisance caused by agencies digging roads to install gas pipeline in Fatorda constituency.

Acting on reliable information that the Indian Oil Adani Gas Pvt Ltd (IOAGPL) has been entrusted the work of laying a pipeline to provide piped cooking gas to consumers, Sardesai said digging would only destroy all major and internal roads of Fatorda constituency.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the financial condition of the state would not be able to meet the requirement of resurfacing these roads, which will cause great hardships to the residents of Fatorda and will also lead to accidents and loss of life.

“The residents in Fatorda have adequate supply of LPG from public sector undertaking companies such as BPCL and HPCL and as such there is no immediate need for this pipeline to be laid,” he told the PWD, Executive Engineer, while demanding that the PWD should not grant permission for digging of roads for the pipeline work.
