Stating that the State government was trying to promote renewable energy like solar panels, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has said the government was offering a 50% subsidy to institutions and people opting for solar power.

Cabral was speaking to reporters alongside a safety awareness function organised by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL). GSL CMD Cmdr BB Nagpal and other dignitaries were also present at the function.

“The GSL organised the programme on electrical safety awareness in association with Central Electrical Authority (CEA) and I took the opportunity to inform GSL to create awareness on use of alternative renewable energy like solar power.”

“The Goa government is offering a 50% subsidy to GSL employees for use of solar rooftops. This is important because even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been stressing that India will now concentrate on renewable energy source and solar power is one of them.”

“We have requested GSL to use the solar energy and the GSL is trying to link the developed solar energy with the power grid, which will be a fantastic attempt,” said Cabral.

The power minister appealed to people to opt for solar energy and upload their application on the GEDA website.

“Once the application is uploaded, officials from GEDA will arrive and conduct an inspection for solar panels and install them,” said Cabral.

“The electricity department has also been given a target for renewable energy connections and to achieve the target, we have already made provisions to put solar energy into substations and have installed rooftops already.”

“I appeal to people to visit the GEDA website and install solar rooftops, for which the government is giving a 50% subsidy as well,” said

 Cabral.
