MARGAO
The Orlim gram sabha on Sunday witnessed a heated discussions on the dumping of mud in the lake/fields by the contactor engaged by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), with members fearing the mud will be washed away during the monsoons and destroy the once fertile fields.
The members also questioned the contractor of drawing water from the ponds for the construction work, demanding that the contractor should make his own water provision for the work. At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Tamika Da Silva, gram sabha members led by Ida Coutinho and others demanded to know when the mounting of mud will be removed from the fields, warning that she along with other villagers would take further action to turn the lake to its original beautiful form.
Expressing disappointment that the mountain of debris is still lying unused, which has already destroyed the once fertile fields, the members feared that the onset of monsoons will destroy the whole lake and the nearby fields if the mud is not cleared immediately.
