Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday said an oxygen pipeline will be connected to the Chicalim Sub District Hospital which has now partly turned into a Covid hospital.
Speaking to reporters after taking a stock of the situation and holding a review meeting with health officials, Godinho said he would meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and get the oxygen pipeline connected through the GSIDC on top priority.
"I was informed that the hospital lacked oxygen and after speaking to the chief minister on Thursday, 40 cylinders of oxygen were made available.”
"I don't know why GSIDC delayed in connecting the oxygen pipeline to the hospital and it should have been done. I have now spoken to the head of GSIDC and told him to get the oxygen pipeline connected immediately. I will meet the chief minister to expedite this work so that we are prepared to fight the present scenario and also be ready for any third wave.”
Stating that the Chicalim SDH also faced shortage of doctors and medical support staff, Godinho said he has appointed a Covid expert and consultant Dr Anil Mehendiratta under the DHS.
“Dr Mehendiratta will now work with Medical Superintendent and Health Officer Dr Anil Umraskar to help offer better treatment to patients," said Godinho.
“Besides a consultant, we have also appointed three nurses and three multitasking staff who are already on duty from now itself. We have sorted out major issues.”
“I have told then that every week they should follow up on what assurances were made by the government and I will also have a weekly review meeting on facilities at the hospital," said Godinho.
The minister said he had visited the Chicalim SDH to meet doctors and medical staff to take stock of difficulties faced by them.
“Despite the fact they are been doing such hard work, people sometimes feel that it is not enough. We must thank the medical fraternity for their involvement in this crisis. There is always scope for improvement and all shortages faced by the Chicalim SDH will be cleared now," said Godinho.
