Paliencar talks to Union Min, throws light on LED fishing, bull trawling

State Fisheries Minister Vinoda Paliencar took up the issue of bull trawling, LED fishing and building of the state’s fishing infrastructure with Union Minister for Fisheries Radha Mohan Singh rnon Thursday.

Paliencar said that he called on the Union Minister and asked for central government assistance to develop the fishing infrastructure in Goa. He invited joint secretary of fisheries to visit Goa and review the central government’s assistance to 
the state. 
“My focus would be mainly on developing infrastructure for fisheries, aqua culture and fish production in the state,” said Paliencar.  
LED fishing and bull trawling were also highlighted, with the Fisheries Minister urging the Union government to direct all states involved in fishing activity to enforce the LED fishing and bull trawling ban strictly. 
Paliencar also said that he would be soon writing to the Prime Minister with regards to LED fishing and bull trawling to ensure an appropriate legislation is drafted.   
In his letter to Singh, Paliencar also requested the remainder of the Rs 84.18 crore under the Central financial assistance for expansion of the four fish landing centres in the state.   
The Centre had approved the proposal for the expansion of the existing four fish landing centres at Malim, Cutbona, Cortalim and Chapora with a total estimated at Rs 84.18 crore with 75 per cent Central Financial Assistance amounting to Rs 6,313.50 lakh. 
Under the component of “Establishment of fishing Harbour and fish landing centres of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme on Development of marine Fisheries Infrastructure and Post Harbour Operation,” the Indian government had sanctioned an amount of Rs 6.58 crore for the project.  
“Now, it has been given to understand that the fund required for the project already sanctioned earlier needs to been requested separately. Hence, it is kindly requested to disburse an amount of Rs 25 crore for financial year 2017-18 towards the two projects i.e. Malim and Cutbona as the work is in full progress,” he said in the letter.   
He also mentioned that there was an escalation of the estimates from the previous Rs 84.112 crore to Rs 142 crore.
