Palolem beach disappears as sea pounds coast

Palolem beach disappears as sea pounds coast

CANACONA

Visitors at the world-famous Palolem beach were in for a surprise to find the shore missing, as waves struck the protection walls and submerged the entire 1.5 km shore for much of Saturday morning.

“It was high tide and the sea covered the shore in most areas at Palolem,” informed a resident.

Incidentally, Drishti lifesavers stood guard to ensure that visitors did not proceed toward the sea at the main beach entrance.

Incidentally, some protection walls were found giving way after being constantly battered by the strong and rough waves.

Locals claimed this situation of waves submerging the entire shore at Palolem has become a regular problem and demanded a lasting solution to save Palolem beach.

Incidentally, similar situations have been witnessed in the last three years and especially during Cyclone Tauktae last year, damaging the coast and several seaside properties.

“The strong and rough waves continue to batter Palolem coast but authorities hardly have any solution to this recurrent problem,” said Krish Pagi, a local.
