Panaji cops make case against 49 accused before Children’s Court

PANAJI: Panaji Police have submitted the say before Goa Children’s Court seeking custody of 49 accused, who were charged under Section 8 (child abuse) of Goa Children’s Act following the protest against closure of mining in Goa. The accused had previously submitted anticipatory bail application before the Children’s Court.
In their say, Panaji Police have requested the Children’s Court to grant custody of the accused for interrogation. The police highlighted that while protest leaders have been charged for instigating the crowd of agitators, the agitators themselves were given enough warning to allow Bal Raths and other vehicles carrying children and patients to  travel without obstruction. However, several children were stuck in traffic for hours owing to the road block created by the protestors near KTC bus stand.
Police have stated that the custodial interrogation of the 49 accused will help identify other accused and that if they are left free at this juncture, there is a possibility that they will stage another agitation.
Police told the court that the same group of agitators has now threatened to block trucks if mining activities are not resumed in Goa.
