PANAJI: In a significant move, the state government has issued a notification to include the entire Panaji assembly constituency in North Goa PDA, while Taleigao constituency will be included in the Greater Panaji PDA.
The notification issued by Secretary of TCP Department BR Singh indicates that the Panaji and Taleigao constituencies have been fully separated from the planning area, to avoid any possible overlapping in jurisdiction.
Incidentally, though some wards of the Corporation of the City of Panaji fall under Taleigao constituency, they will be included in the Greater Panaji PDA.
“Earlier, most of the planning area of Panaji was mixed with Taleigao. However, Survey Nos 92 and 109 will be in Panaji, while the rest will be in both constituencies as per their respective jurisdictions,” informed a senior official of the planning department.
Incidentally, the process of giving Babush Monserrate the charge of Greater Panaji PDA is in the final stage.
With the separation of Panaji and Taleigao constituencies from the planning areas, it is now possible for Greater Panaji PDA to come into existence, thereby paving the way for the appointment of Babush Monserrate as its chairman.
This would leave Panaji constituency, presently represented by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, separated from Taleigao constituency and Greater Panaji PDA.
In a related development, the government has revised the Mopa PDA to include some parts of Amare village.
