Panaji to get 70k smart meters

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that 70,000 smart electricity meters would be installed in Panaji and surrounding areas. He also informed that smart transformers have been proposed for Panaji.
Speaking to media persons, Parrikar said, "Once these smart meters are installed, there will be no need for readers to visit residences for meter reading. We will be able to monitor power consumption in any area at any given moment. With these, even hourly basis readings would be available. We have also proposed smart transformers for Panaji, which will help in understanding the load on transformers online."
He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the development of open space opposite old IPHB Complex, Altinho, Panaji.
"We intend to develop one open space per week for recreational activities", he said.
The area proposed to be developed is nearly 2,400 square metres. The project intends at integrating the existing trees and binding the same in an organic free-flowing seating form. The design also looks at creating a pedestrian access from the main road to the residences in the area. The area would be landscaped with peripheral planters with trees and plants with low maintenance.
