Glass jar and the clear love

Glass jars are one of the most versatile objects for gifting. Also known as a mason jar, are see through and can be used in a variety of innovative ways!

Candle holder: Paint tiny thumbnail sized hearts on the glass jars sans the lid and simply add a tealight candle. You can use this DIY candle as the centrepiece for your candle light dinner or simply wrap it as a gift. You can further personalise them by painting the initials or even names of yourself and your partner

Bedside night light: A similar concept as above, simply replace the candle with fairy lights and top it with the lid, with the plug outside. Once the fairy lights are plugged in, they will light up the room and the hearts and your partner’s face too.

A year in a jar: Write a note for each week of the year on a small piece of paper and fold it into a tiny memo. Toss all the notes in a glass jar and use a marker pen to write instruction asking your partner to open only one folded piece per week. Examples of what to write: how much you love or appreciate your special someone, a specific memorable day with its date and description, your reasons to love/ miss your partner.

Few other ideas with glass jars are; filling them with mixed nuts and a memo that says ‘I am nuts about you’, fill them with popcorn and two movie tickets as an invitation for a movie date. Snow globe with tiny hearts in an inverted glass jar!

Printer to the rescue!

Pre-planned date coupons: Personalised coupon gifts are always a big hit, and they’re almost as much fun for you to make as they are for your special someone to redeem. Print an official looking coupon booklet with exciting offers for your partner to cash on when they want. You could add in a few limited editions, like a vacation or an entire shopping day, plus a few tame ones like a walk on the beach, or movie dates, or an impromptu date night. Or make them spicy!

Message in a bottle: Type a heartfelt letter and put it in a tiny bottle! Printing one in small font helps get a bigger message across in a smaller space. This gift is equally impressive in a handwritten format, you could use a bigger bottle to make sure your paper fits in. Also remember to tie it tightly with a pretty lace or thread for easy removal.

Print a calendar: Try 12 pictures of you and your partner as a desk calendar. If you are apprehensive about the pictures of yourself, you can always add love quotes or pictures of vacations you have taken or plan to take. Make sure to mark your special days, like birthdays and anniversaries to make it look truly customised.

Valentine’s baskets

There is absolutely nothing more exciting than a gift basket! Simply because receiving a gift basket ensure you have officially got more than one gift and who doesn’t want more gifts? Gift baskets are the most personalised customisable gifting idea ever! If your special someone is a bookworm, gift them a book basket. A health freak? Exotic fruit basket! Coffee addict? How about a personalised mug and different coffee options? The possibilities are numerous and the sky is the limit!

Twist to the traditional gifts

Although, commonplace but chocolates, bouquets and teddy bears seem customary to Valentine's Day, but if you want to stay away yet ironically follow the custom gifting why not give them a unique twist.

Flowers seem the most preferred gifting option, but instead of the traditional red rose why not try an option that won’t wilt with time. You could try your hand at origami or crochet, it has the charm of a handmade gift and the significance of the red rose! Not your cup of tea? How about picking your own flowers instead of the easy way at the florist? Give a bouquet of handpicked wildflowers. The gesture will go a long way

Bouquet of flowers is always an option. But try giving a bouquet of chocolates instead, you cover the bouquet genre as well as the chocolate one! Isn't chocolate his cup of tea? How about a bouquet of beers? Try different brands for the variety? Handmade flower bouquets with origami, crochet or paper flowers are a win-win too and if you aren’t too comfortable with handmade stuff, simply cut heart or flower shaped colour paper and write love notes on each and make a bouquet

Cards are a must have on Valentine’s Day, instead of heading to the card shops overflowing with commercial cards, why not make a personalised card with whatever creative skills you possess. It is bound to mean more than any number of store-bought cards! Conscious of your handwriting, simply print one! Try experimenting with sizes and textures! Use sand or hand prints on your cards! If you love bling, try a dash of glitter. You can never go wrong with handmade cards. Other traditional gifts like jewellery or plush toys can also have a personal touch. How about a hand at jewellery making? Or a charms bracelet? Try making a sock plush toy, just make sure it isn’t a stinky one, though!

When you choose to give a handmade gift to somebody important to you, you're sending them the message that they were worth the time that you spent! So no matter what you make, it will surely be perfect gift for your special someone!
