A parking lot has been opened near the Ghatge Maharaj hall at a cost of about Rs 1 crore, while a senior citizen’s park will be set up near the Womens’ Hostel at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore.
Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte laid the foundation stone for the senior citizen’s park and later inaugurated the parking lot in the presence of Penha de Franca Sarpanch Sapnil Chodankar, Dy Sarpanch Deepali Vernekar, ZP member Kavita Naik and the panch members.
Speaking on the occasion, Khaunte said most senior citizens of Porvorim come for a stroll on the service road and many had requested a park for them in the open space by the side of the service road near the Womens’ Hostel.
“To fulfil their wishes, the tourism department is developing a Senior Citizen’s park in area of about 1,500 sq. mtrs belonging to the Comunidade by spending about Rs 1.5 crore. This park will have an acupressure pathway, yoga space, free weight area, senior citizens area and open space for other activities. This park will be useful for other people also who come for the morning and evening walk on the Service Road,” said Khaunte.
Commenting on the parking lot developed by the tourism department at a cost of over Rs 1 crore, Khaunte said there are three halls namely Azad Bhavan, Ghatge Maharaj hall and the Kshastratej hall at Alto-Betim.
“During the marriage season, people using the three halls are forced to park their vehicles on the road, thereby causing problems for traffic movement. Hence, this parking area has been developed to accommodate around 20 vehicles plus an equal number of two wheelers. A badminton court has also been provided in this parking lot so that children can play badminton when there are no functions in these halls,” said Khaunte.
